To ensure the long-term survival of the region’s most vulnerable flora, the Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation has established a specialized Threatened Species Nursery. This facility focuses on the propagation of Rare, Endangered, and Threatened (RET) angiosperms, many of which are endemic to the niche riparian and evergreen habitats of the Chalakudy River basin. By utilizing advanced ecological monitoring and indigenous seed-collection techniques, our nursery serves as a critical “Noah’s Ark,” producing healthy saplings for site-specific ecorestoration. This project bridges the gap between scientific Red List assessments and ground-level action, providing the biological material necessary to rebuild complex forest layers while involving local communities in the vital work of species recovery. The threatened species includes Syzygium occidentale, Humbodltia vahliana, Diospyros crumenata etc.
