Vanishing the Sacred Island: New Documentary Release

Once the vibrant “Eyes of the Coastline,” Kerala’s ancient Sacred Groves (Kavus) are disappearing at an alarming rate, swallowed by urbanization and the rising sea. This short, evocative documentary focuses on the Sankukulangara Kavu, a threatened coastal sanctuary, to reveal the devastating cost of ignoring traditional wisdom.
Witness the vanishing ecological balance where thousands of species, from endemic plants to birds and butterflies, are confined. The film champions the effort to conserve these vital ecosystems, highlighting the powerful connection between Indian Knowledge Systems and modern ecorestoration.
This project is the research output of the Taxonomy & Ecology Lab, MES Asmabi College, in collaboration with the Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation. It has already earned a District-level Award under the Haritha Keralam mission.
