The Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation integrates inland fish conservation program and the Riparian Restoration program supported by Kerala State Biodiversity Board with participation of LSGs strengthening biodiversity management committees. The initial step was taken at Annamanada Grama Panchayath BMC Thrissur district along the Chalakudy river.
Over 1,500 native fish—including the threatened yellow catfish (Horabagrus brachysoma) and olive barb (Systomus sarana) were provided by KUFOS. Many of the released fishes are ready for breeding. The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Bijukumar and presided over by Panchayat President P. V. Vinod.
Dr. C. P. Shaji, ichthyologist and Member BMC Annamanada and local resident, along with Professor. M K Sajeevan, Head of the Department of Fisheries Resource Management, KUFOS; Mr. T. K. Satheeshan, Chairman of the Development Standing Committee, and Mr. Shiju C. K., Ward Member, also addressed the gathering. The program was implemented with the inland fish conservation project of BMC Annamanada funded by Kerala State Biodiversity Board and its was technically supported by Western Ghats Hornbill Foundation.
